Hello Class of 2017,
I hope you all had memorable summers. It is hard for me to believe that this will be my last year at Wagner College. It feels like just yesterday I was in your shoes and picking up the Wagnerian for the first time.
I would like to extend a warm welcome to you and your families on behalf of the entire Student Government Association. We are all honored that the student body has chosen us to represent them.
“SGA’s main purpose is to help you, the student, in any way possible. We are here to listen to your praises and complaints about the college. We constantly work to support the creation of more clubs and fund them to the best of our ability. It is our goal to help add to the vibrant, diverse community of students that are proud to say they attend Wagner College.”
The SGA is under the Campus Life division. There is both an executive board and a senate. The executive board is composed by six undergraduate students: President, Vice President, VP of Finance, VP of Communications, VP of Campus Events, and VP of Civic Engagements / Community Service. The senate is filled by twenty undergraduates. Five senators from each academic grade level represent their respective graduating class.
Our office is located in the Student Union on the second floor right before you walk down into the main cafeteria, room 211. We are here as a resource for the student body to act as a liaison between the student body and administration. If you ever have any concerns that you want to express please do not hesitate to stop by our office.
Throughout the year we sponsor several land assist with several large events. Some of things to look forward to this year are Fall Fest, Homecoming / Fall Festival, Wagnerstock, and our largest event Big Name Act where in the spring we will bring a famous musical artists to campus and host a concert.
If you want to get involved on campus and obtain great leadership skills I strongly encourage you to join the SGA. We are currently accepting applications for the five senator positions for the class of 2017. Applications are available in our office and online. We will start accepting applications on the first day of classes. All applications are due by September 9th, and 4:00pm. Then campaigning will begin. The full details regarding campaigning can be found inside the application. Four senators will be elected on September 17th. It will then be their responsibility to select their fifth senator.
If you do not feel that the SGA is the right choice for you are strongly encourage you to look through this issue at the full list of all clubs and organizations that Wagner has to offer. If you don’t see something you want to see you have the ability to change that. Just reach out to anyone in the SGA and we will be more than happy to explain the process of bringing a new organization to the campus.
I wish you all nothing but the best in your future endeavors and look forward to meeting you all during orientation weekend and around campus throughout the year.
Y’all take care.
Andrew
